So you like keep a live journal in the hope that your life is interesting, and people will read what you have to say...
or that your friends can read it so ya'll stay in touch...
or you get to communicate your thoughts to someone else.
Comunication, however, is a two way street. You can not communicate if no one is recieving the message. So you quit.

Yes, I quit. This is my last LJ post unless someone can convice me otherwise. No one is reading, so I assume no one cares. No point wasting me time.

Who would have thought. They aren't jeans. They are comfy black pants for my theater class. (I have to wear all black for theater.) But they are XS. Ironicly, I still look fat.

Max would say that you can't do this. You have to define what that is first. "That" would be the Switchfoot concert. It was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, it was that good. The opening act apparently hadn't had a sound check. Their music was so loud you couldn't hear them. And then there was a very loooong set-up time for Switchfoot. 30 some odd minutes. But AHHH!!! And their lead singer is crazy. He jumped into the audience and then climbed us the big wall at the Miller Stage at State Fair. He was walking along it and stopped RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR SECTION!!!!!!!!!!! And this was during my favorite song!!!!!!!!!! It was so freaking awesome.

My gas station experience

Getting gas is pretty routine. You pump it, you go in to pay for it, you drive away.

This one was far from. So I get out to start pumping my gas. I hear someone lewdly shout, You're hot. Or something along those lines. Again, very lewd. So I ignore it. Not interested.

Finish pumping my gas. Go in the pay. Guy who shouted the loud remark is in line. He insists I skip, so I do. Then, as I am paying, he asked me if I heard him. Do I answer? NO!!!! After I pay as quickly as I can (you can't go that fast with a credit card) I rush out.

I'm running in front of my car. I see a we spot, but my body doesn't register it. I keep going. Just want to get away from this MORTIFYING ordeal. SLIP on the grease spot. Break my fall on on knee and my front bumper. I get up like nothing happened.

And then my dad asks me why I fell. Oh... nothing. Slippery spot. You know, you should walk nicely. Umm.. sure.

For all the un-married girls reading this, you MUST read He's Just Not that Into You. I started listening to it (books on tape rock!) and it is so liberating. All that stuff that you talked to your friends about. All the signs you overanylize.... yeah. It doesn't matter. He's just not that into you, because when he is, you won't need to overanylize anything. READ IT!

Why is stereotyping so bad?

Here is how I see stereotyping.
The problem with stereotyping is not labeling people. Labeling is a natural part of life. Imagine how hard life would be if labeling didn't exists. Let's look at something so simple as a chair. A chair is a chair, correct? You sit on it. Yes, but there are several types of chair: side chairs, arm chairs, lounge chairs, barstools, stools, teak, metal, wood. And the further you break that down, the further you get from labeling a chair a chair, the more specific a chair becomes. And you get to the point where you know longer have the CONCEPT of chair, and you begin talking about THIS chair. It's all about particulars.
Now imagine if you used that concept on people. Say you want to talke about teenagers. But wait, the concept doesn't exists. I guess you'll have to name each and every person you want to include under the umbrella teenager. Wouldn't life and communication be difficult.
So why is stereotyping to bad? Because we not only label people but make assumptions about people based upon those labels. You assume that someone who is black is ghetto. Someone who is asain is studious. That someone who is rich is better than someone who is poor. But that's not the case. There are plenty of classy black people, and ghetto asian and rich people. We don't allow ourselves to see beyond the label. We assume that some traits associated with a label must apply to all within the label, but that's simply not true.

So in short: labeling, good. Assumptions based upon labels, bad.

You should all go read Pride and Prejudice. At first I was like, what the heck. Why not. Then I can go watch the movie when it comes out. But it's actually really rather good. Interesting subplots, although the abridged version might be better. I finished it in a week. But then again, it was a book on tape (SD really)! Now I have to wait for the Notebook on tape. ahhhh!!!

My art musuem trip

Riding the bus isn't so bad. I don't get sick anymore. Yay!

The museum itself was a bit of a let-down. The exhibits were okay.

But I saw Mr. Elisio running downtown. I think he's still mad at me because he didn't even look at me although I waved.

And some old guy tried to hit on me. I was so scared I was being followed. I double and triple checked. Those big storefront glass windows came in handy.

Finally, I got lost. I couldn't find my bus. But the person I am, I had MCTS programed as a contact in my cell phone. (I'm crazy, but it came in handy!) I was told the bus stop was one block over.

My Multi-cultural Walmart Experience

I went to Wal-Mart last night, which turned out to be the language center of the south side.

As my sister was browsing through shoes, this spanish guys said, "hola". And I responded. Then we had a conversation in SPANISH. He asked us how we were, and I asked him how he was. Then he told me he was picking shoes for his wife.

And then as my sister and I were over by the window curtain rods, a white guys asked us to move our cart. As he passed us, he said thank you in HMONG.

And of course there was lots of english speaking.

All three languages of the south side in one store. WOW.

Another DS new hire update... I met the new CIS intern yesterday. He's cute too.

5 bucks!

This is the other funny story I forgot as I was writing my entry about camp. So on the way back we were talking about how guys can get raped. So my cousin tells us his almost experience. It was late and he went out to his car to get some sodas. Keep in mind that he's 21. As he reaches in to pick the sodas up from the back seat, someone pushes him in. This person is a little bigger and squishes him face down into the car. He's taken aback and screams. Then he puts on his fighting face and gets ready to beat this guy down. When he does turn around, the lady who had pushed him in the car said, "You want to get laid? 5 bucks!" LOL. It must have been so mortifying.

So... new June hires at DS. Our Multimedia intern is really really cute. Yep yep.

I was away from my computer for 4 days

Yes, the person who checks her e-mail almost religiously had no internet access for 4 days. And I have to say it was nice. Who cares if I have mail. Those people can wait. That is what an out-of-office is for.

I was away at SALT, a christian retreat. Before you go yuck, I've got two funny stories for you.

The first is just plain odd. There was this pastor there called OB O'Brian. He is one of those very very religious type. The kind that almost make you sick. He is very in love with God. So I went to his Intimacy with God workshop. And he tells us we should all spend time with Jesus. He did. For a while, once a week he would go to McDonalds and spend time with Jesus. He would buy himself something, and Jesus something. And they'd have lunch together. How strange is this.

Second thisn is a joke. There's this guy. He's really broke and doesn't have a job. I guess he could be classified as a discouraged worker, for those of you who took Econ. The zoo need a gorilla. The man goes out and buys and gorilla suit. He gets to the zoo, and they say, no. We want a real gorilla. Admant about getting a job, he does his thing, ah ah, oh oh. You're hired! The zoo creates a display and puts the man inside. One day he decides they could draw more people by digging a pit, putting a swing on top, and a lion inside. They do, and he spends his day swinging away. One day he get's overconfident and falls in! Help me! Help me! The visitors are surprized the gorilla can talk. But worse, he's in the pit with the lion. The lion gets closer and closer. He's about to attach. Help me! Even louder, help me! Help me! And just as the lion gets close enough to bite him to bits, Shut up or you'll get both us us fired!

LOL.

I tried to be nice and put it in my sister's room. She fell on it, and fell over, with another bucket of clothes in her hand. LOL.
Just finished watching Roman Holiday

It's so sad. I was waiting for the happy ending...and then it didn't come. Instead I got "The End." It could have been more satisfying, you know...But really excellent movie all the same.

Roman Holiday and This is Your Life by Switchfoot made me think, why do we give up what we want to do and do what we should do? Duh. Because it's what we should do. You start by making a few concessions. And you think they won't affect you. It's just a little thing. It won't affect you at all. But every decision you make inevitably leads you down a different road. It might not be too far from the one you want to be on, but after a few concessions, you look around. Where the heck am I? It this me? Is this what I want? No. You are no where where you want to be, but definitely where everyone else tells you you should be. And you know you should be happy because this is the right thing to do. But it feels all wrong because it's not who you are. You want something else.

Poor Princess Anna.

I finished my last final about 15 minutes ago!!!! Officially on summer break. That means I get to work... and work... and work some more. Why am I happy?

Seriously, I think I would be okay with year round schooling as long as there are no finals. I really hate the stress and pressure of finals. I'm just glad finals are over with, for now.

I am bored and my brain hurts from studying. Ow!

But good news, only 2 finals left, and only one real one. Yeah, the other one is not so real, right? But it won't be that hard. Actually, neither are hard. Tomorrow's is just a LOT of content. 64 identifications, of which he will pick 3. Yeah, 3. So glad that I will be able to throw all that info away this time tomorrow. :)

GL everyone!

I haven't been to school in the last two days. Yeah, I've been feeling pretty crappy.

Side note: who has 28 millions dollars to give away? Some really rich MU alumni who want a school named after them, that's who.
